One of my recent discoveries for craft beer was FAM333. It is a really cool bar that is also a coffee bar in the morning and afternoon. I am always going to places without any expectations and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by what I experienced. Of course things will be biased as they knew who I was but based on what I saw and what I had, I doubt I would change my overall impressions of the place.
Getting to FAM333 and finding it is a challenge in and of itself. Kita Sando is very inconvenient unless you are along the Fukutoshin Line. It takes about 10 minutes to walk there from the JR Lines and it isn’t close to Shinjuku either. The walk was worth it to find this hidden gem and I’m already thinking of when I can make a good excuse to head to that area again.
The place is pretty small, but this is part of the charm of the bar. In the day they have various types of toast and fresh ground drip coffee. They make everything to order and it takes a little time for each one to be made. I wish I had a chance to try it as it looked delicious. I only had a chance to take photos and let the owner enjoy his breakfast before the night shift started.
For food, they have a variety of western dishes and they looked typically delicious for any Japanese bar. The pickles were well plated and the roast beef had me salivating. Like the toast, I didn’t get to eat it but the smell was wonderful.
The beers at FAM333 were all really good. They have 2 hand pumps and about 6 taps. I thought the quality of the beers was really good and they had a good variety of beers too. I can’t wait to go back again as it is a place where you can easily just chill at the bar and relax on your own. You can also talk with the people there if you’d like and I’m sure they’d be very welcoming to you.
FAM333 is definitely a place I want to visit again. You can be sure that if I’m in the area and I have some time I will be back. Unfortunately since I’m on the east side of Tokyo, I tend to get lazy and don’t venture to the west as often as I should. I really think it is a good area and can’t wait to go back.
