Antenna America is a really good chain of bottle shops that also allows you to drink inside the shop. Whenever I’m in Yokohama, I often go to their shops to drink and enjoy tacos so I was excited to hear about their newest shop at Yokohama Station. I went within the first week or so, but again in June to do a feature shop for Taiheiyogan. I was happy to learn a lot more about the system as well as to learn even more about the great beers that they are bringing in.
Antenna America (Yokohama) was a little difficult to find the first time I tried to find it. Now that I know where it is exactly, it is pretty easy to find. You have to go to the south exit of JR Yokohama Station and it is right there. It only takes a couple minutes to walk there but if you are coming from street level, it can be difficult to find. Yokohama has always been a difficult station for me to figure out, the same as Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, or even Tokyo for first timers. It is definitely worth the hassle to look for Antenna America and you won’t be disappointed.
Antenna America follows the same system with all of their shops. They import their beers from America and you can find a good selection of beers that can be hard to find elsewhere. The Yokohama shop has a huge fridge lining the back wall with hundreds of different beers. It is hard to go without grabbing a few bottles to take home, and thankfully you can easily do so. I can easily spend an hour just browsing the bottles and being indecisive about what to buy and what to try. I’m basically a little kid in a candy store wanting to buy everything.
While the bottles are a big feature at Antenna America, the beers on tap and the food are also important. The hot dogs aren’t bad but the wings are much better. I really enjoyed the food but I still miss the fish tacos from the Kannai location. There is something about California beer and Mexican food that just matches perfectly for me. For value, you really have to look at buying beer on tap as there are 10 taps available and you’ll definitely find whatever you want to drink.
Antenna America is not doing anything to ruin what works. I feel the decor is much better than their Kannai location, but that is also due to the fact that Yokohama is much newer. I will definitely be going there more and more whenever I am visiting Yokohama, and you should too if you are a craft beer fiend like me.
