Your First Color (Solution in my Head-Solution in my Stomach) by Pipilotti Rist is a love hate artwork for me. To be brutally honest, I don’t like this artwork. I really felt it was strange but the overall idea was good.

Your First Color is housed in a store house behind Shima Kitchen. It can easily be overlooked if you don’t know what you are looking for. Shima Kitchen tends to overshadow Your First Color but there is often a bunch of people hoping to visit Your First Colour.

When you enter, you are treated to a dark room with a disc suspended in the rafters. The disc has a video that is being projected and I believe there is also audio that accompanies it. The video is nothing more than video of different parts of the body. Generally you will see close ups of eyes, mouths, and noses. You can also see what looks like the inside of an active lava lamp. The video of body parts was really disheartening and I really didn’t enjoy it. The lava lamp part was more enjoyable and interesting. I really do enjoy that part and only that part.

Some people really seemed to like the video and stayed a long time. I can only tolerate this artwork for a short period as I am not so interested in the video of body parts. I think it can speak well to some people but to be honest I doubt I will want to visit this artwork again unless I have a lot of time on my hands.
