Strange Fellows Brewing is, as the name suggests, a strange place to get beer. It is located a little away from the main breweries in East Van but not so far that you can’t easily walk there. I walked there from Bomber and had a good time sobering up before entering the tasting room.
Strange Fellows has a very clean look and a very nice operation. I really liked the selection of goods for sale such as their shirts, but it can be limited at times. I didn’t have enough time to really drink their beers and I can’t really say it stood out to me. I think the potential of this brewery is pretty strong in the long run and a place that I wish I had time to revisit and understand better. I’m sure that by the next time I visit Vancouver that I’ll be able to understand what their goal is for beer.
Overall I felt that the tasting room was a bit too big for what they wanted. It had a good group of people there for a weekday afternoon, and for all I know it could be a really busy place at night. I felt it was a little too big but it allows them a lot of room to grow as more and more people visit the brewery. Like many other breweries in Vancouver, it is very difficult to carve out your own niche these days but I really hope they can work on this and become really strong to the point that I am craving their beers.
