Postmark Brewing

Postmark Brewing is, from what I heard, a relatively new brewery in Vancouver.  It is located in a somewhat bad area, socially speaking, but it isn’t as bad as you think.  After going to Steamworks with “M”, we walked all the way to Postmark Brewing.  It was a fun time to catch up with one of my close friends from high school.  We had to walk through Gastown to get to the other side of Gastown where Postmark is located.  It isn’t that easy with all of the homeless people asking for money and help but if you can navigate that you can be rewarded with a really nice place for a beer.

Postmark is probably the least brewer like brewery in Vancouver.  They come off as being too posh for their good as they have a very good marketing team.  Everything inside seemed upscale and marketed more towards a wine lover.  This is likely because Postmark and a local winery collaborated on this location to make a combined craft brewery and winery.  You can even get flights of both beer and wine so if you are with a wine lover, this is a great place for both of you to enjoy yourselves.  If you look at the website, you’ll get a better idea of why they focus too much on marketing.  They have beautiful designs but it feels as if they do not put enough focus into the product, relatively speaking.

While there is a lot that makes me hesitant to go there, I do love the old heritage building that they occupy.  The large wood doors and the playful front yard were very inviting.  As you enter the shop you will see the growler fill station, shop, and brewery on the left with the restaurant to the right.  The industrial look of the taproom was really nice but not as welcoming as I would have liked.  The servers were friendly but they tended to leave you alone a little too much rather than checking on you from time to time to make sure everything was okay.

The beers from Postmark are really nice.  They felt a little immature at the time as they are trying a lot of different things and it didn’t seem as refined as a long established brewery.  This is not to say that the beers are bad, as this is far from the truth.  The beers are really good and I really enjoyed all of them.  I even bought a few bottles to bring home and I really enjoyed them.

Postmark’s restaurant may not be a place that I would visit all the time but they do have a lot of good beers that will keep me buying their product when I return home.  I really enjoy what they have done and can’t wait to see how fast they grow in maturity with their beers and to see what other crazy things they can think of.
