My search for more craft beer bars is a never ending adventure. I had a chance to visit a craft beer bar in Shinbashi called Dry Dock. It is a ship themed bar that is nowhere near the water. Dry Dock isn’t too far from the water, and historically it would have been at the water, so I guess that is why they call it Dry Dock. It is just south of Shinbashi Station and right under the tracks to boot. When you get there and enter the door, you actually head downstairs into the sunken basement. It isn’t completely underground but it isn’t above ground either. The main bar is in the basement and the second floor is where the tables are. I had a chance to sit at the tables which are made of wood. It added to the nautical theme of the bar. Overall, the atmosphere was really cozy, but in a good way.
Dry Dock really plays its name well by making sure you know it is a ship themed shop. The food is pretty standard for a Japanese beer bar and it was pretty good. I didn’t order much as I had already eaten, so I just had some fries to keep my stomach from feeling bad the next day. I have a very high expectation when it comes to bars and their selection of beers. While my recollection is a little hazy, I do know that they have a small selection of American beers as well as a good selection of Japanese beers. It may be difficult for them to keep a wide variety of beer but they did have more than I expected.
For the atmosphere and the location, if I was working in Shinbashi, I would be going to the Dry Dock often. I think they have a good setup and it is a nice cozy atmosphere. It seems like a good place to meet people if you are on the first floor bar area. You can probably enjoy a little time talking with the staff as well, but I believe some of the tables are standing only, so you’d better have comfortable shoes. If you are lucky and can get a table, then you can just chill and relax and enjoy the place.
